Our Impact
Current Projects
-
Our current project is focused on energy efficiency in homes on the Crow Reservation. Our home improvement and weatherization program works to directly help families, with an emphasis on elders who are caring for their grandchildren or elders who have a significant need for affordable electricity (medical, disability, etc). This is a retrofitting project that can purchase heat pumps and solar generators that provide a first line of action.
Application coming soon.

We have an energy auditor fellowship program where we plan to work with two apprentices to obtain their energy auditor certification. We support our apprentices in a variety of ways ranging from covering the coursework, exams, and certification fees and costs. We will also have an equipment inventory bank that apprentices may have access to any time they need the equipment.
Application and flyer coming soon.
Works in Progress
-
Crow Reservation Energy & Electricity Realities Study: It is important for us to know the energy landscape that our community functions in. We seek to understand the energy and electricity realities that our people face in Big Horn County.
Housing Retrofit Program & Zero Energy Modular Housing Strategy Feasibility Study: In partnership with Vermont Energy Investment Corporation, we are developing a feasibility study to implement a housing retrofit program to create energy efficient homes. Our aim is to eventually perform a feasibility study that looks to invest and implement a zero energy modular housing strategy.

Our developing long-term project focuses on food sovereignty and workforce development. We seek to reconnect with the land and grow fresh food crops that can supply a community co-op store on the reservation. Our partners include Montana Indigenous Food Sovereignty Initiative, Broken Ground Permaculture, local nonprofits who have a focus on food security and sovereignty, and local food growers (tribal and non-tribal).
This project is in the planning phase. Please check back for more updates.

We believe in the power of our culture and people, especially the next generation of leaders and changemakers. We are devoted to the wellbeing of our people and are creating innovative ways to empower them. We are in the stages of developing a program that support Apsaalooke youth in finding their path by providing programming that exposes them to diverse skills and career opportunities. Our areas of focus will be in education, self-awareness, skill-building, creative expression, and mentorship.
